OPP to Escort Tarun Bali’s Body to Thornhill Ahead of Funeral
The procession will be livestreamed as police ask the public to gather safely along the route and sign an online book of condolence.
On Friday, a procession escorted Ontario Provincial Police Provincial Constable Tarun Bali from the Forensic Sciences and Coroner's Complex in North York to Thornhill via Highway 401, Highway 400, and Highway 407.
Provincial Constable Bali, 29, died Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle in Hearst while on deployment with the James Bay OPP; an 18-year-old man faces a first-degree murder charge.
The Ontario Provincial Police asked the public to gather safely at overpasses, requesting that those attending "avoid obstructing traffic or stopping on the highway" to ensure safety during the procession.
Members of the public may express condolences by signing an online book or visiting OPP detachments in Orangeville and Shelburne, while the procession is viewable on the OPP's YouTube channel.
Police are asking that the family's privacy be respected as funeral arrangements for the officer remain to be determined, with further details to follow.
