Private Lake in Eagle County Source of Zebra Mussels in Colorado River

EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO, JUL 31 – A private lake in Eagle County released zebra-mussel-infested water into the Colorado River, spreading the invasive species to multiple connected water bodies, officials said.

State officials may have solved the puzzle of how zebra mussels got into the Colorado River.  On July 3, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials discovered a large number of adult zebra mussels in a privately owned body of water in western Eagle County.
