Principal placed on administrative leave after Fetty Wap lyric attributed to her in yearbook, reports say
The district says the yearbook quote prompted an investigation and a move toward non-reappointment for the 2026-2027 school year.
Principal Katie O'Connell of Trout Creek Academy in St. Johns County was placed on administrative leave after a Fetty Wap lyric from 'Trap Queen' was attributed to her in the school's yearbook.
Beginning May 20, the St. Johns County School District placed O'Connell on paid administrative leave after parents complained about the song's references to drug dealing and strip clubs.
O'Connell denied approving the quote, stating, "I approved the yearbook twice on April 9," and that assistant principal Samantha Sawruk did the same.
The district informed O'Connell of non-reappointment for the 2026-2027 school year and barred her from school property, while attorney Jack Webb called the situation "a bunch of garbage."
O'Connell noted parents contacted the district, news outlets, and Facebook before reaching out to her, despite her desire to return as a principal elsewhere, not at Trout Creek Academy.
