Marco Rubio in India LIVE: US Secretary of State Rubio Invites PM Modi to White House
Rubio and Modi discussed defence, trade and technology cooperation as the US and India work to repair ties after months of strain.
On Saturday, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and extended an invitation on behalf of President Donald Trump for Modi to visit the White House in the near future.
This four-day visit aims to recalibrate bilateral relations that faced headwinds since mid-last year, following disputes over punitive tariffs, H1B visa fees, and Trump's controversial assertions regarding India-Pakistan military clashes.
Before arriving in the national capital, Rubio visited the Mother House, headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa, after reaching Kolkata on Saturday morning for his first official India visit.
Rubio will hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday and attend the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting on Tuesday, strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership amid "substantial progress."
On Monday, the Secretary will travel to Agra and Jaipur before returning to Delhi for the Quad meeting, continuing efforts to firm up a mutually beneficial trade deal and discuss West Asia regional security.
