Female teacher struck off for ‘sexual relationship’ with Girl Guide
Joanne Munro exploited a vulnerable 16-year-old through a secret relationship involving explicit images and coercion, leading to her removal from the teaching register for two years.
Joanne Munro, primary school teacher at St David’s Primary, Johnstone, was struck off after a secret sexual relationship with a vulnerable teenage girl.
Long ago, Munro met the pupil at a Girl Guides camp and formed a “close, personal, intimate friendship” while sharing beds at events between April 1 and April 6, 2012, and at a camp in June 2012.
Investigators found the relationship involved explicit image exchanges and paid trips, with Munro organising work experience at St David’s Primary while intimate encounters continued.
The General Teaching Council for Scotland issued a removal-with-consent order saying Munro’s actions were 'sexually motivated', removing her from the GTCS register with a two-year application bar.
Across camps and school settings, investigators identified repeated boundary breaches at Girl Guides events, camps and St David’s Primary School, Johnstone, with Munro arranging work experience and sustained contact.
