An extraordinary art auction of the Estonian Artists' Union will take place at the ARS Art Campus on October 8, 9 and 10, where 162 works will be put up for auction. The auction can also be followed live on the ERR culture portal.
A record price for a work by a living artist was set at a rescue auction. At the Estonian Artists' Union (EKL) support auction, Jaan Elken's painting "Driver's Cabin" sold for the highest price, which found a new owner for 205,000 euros. Culture, Jaan Elken, Tiina Määrmann.
The Friday day of the Estonian Artists' Union (EKL) support auction ended at 11:27 p.m. with a total revenue of 786,400 euros. 81 works were sold on the first day and there were 1,400 bids at the auction. Over 10,000 unique views online.
There were no hiccups on the second day of the Estonian Artists' Union auction, and Jaan Elken's 1982 painting "Driver's Cabin" sold for an astonishing 205,000 euros. This made Elken by far the most expensive living Estonian artist. The starting price of the painting was 15,000.
