President UEFA stated that Russian football players would not be able to return to international competitions yet, according to Alexander Cheferin, because of Russia's continuing war against Ukraine.
Aleksandr Ceferin explained that he opposes punishing athletes for the decisions of their governments, and expressed regret over the exclusion of the Russians: "Do you think a football player can say anything to Putin? No way."
