Man Convicted of Sexual Assault on 13-Year-Old Girl on Southend Train
Jurors convicted the 50-year-old of multiple sexual offences after a prolonged attack on a girl, and he faces sentencing next month.
- On Thursday, a jury at Inner London Crown Court convicted Abdulmanon Aliev of two counts of assault by penetration, three counts of sexual assault, and attempted rape against a 13-year-old girl aboard a train from Southend to London.
- Aliev launched a "prolonged" sexual assault after blocking the victim by the window, having approached her using a translation app on his phone. She escaped when the train arrived at London Fenchurch Street.
- British Transport Police detectives from the Major, Serious and Organised Crime division trawled hours of CCTV footage to track Aliev's movements. Plain-clothes officers arrested him on June 27 in Peckham, South London, where he lived on Rye Lane.
- BTP Detective Constable Elizabeth Cahill called the attack "abhorrent" and "despicable," praising the victim's bravery in reporting to police and supporting the investigation. Aliev will be sentenced on June 17.
- Specialist officers have supported the victim and her family throughout the investigation, while the Crown Prosecution Service used clothing seized from Aliev's home as key evidence securing the conviction.
