Power Banks Sold on Amazon Recalled over Burn, Fire Risks
The recall follows 15 overheating reports, including 11 fires causing three minor injuries and over $380,000 in property damage, officials said.
The CPSC announced Friday that about 210,000 INIU BI-B41 10,000mAh power banks sold on Amazon were recalled for fire and burn hazards.
Battery defects prompted regulators to act, as INIU reported 15 overheating incidents including 11 fires and three minor burn injuries causing about $400,000 in property damage.
Only devices bearing serial numbers 000G21, 000H21, 000I21 and 000L21 in black or blue shells with INIU logo and paw-print LED sold on Amazon.com from August 2021 to April 2022 for about $18 are included.
Owners should stop using affected units and visit INIU's recall web page to verify serial numbers, register for refunds, and note the 15-day response promise; officials advise contacting municipal HHW or accredited lithium-ion recycling centers for safe disposal.
Iniu acknowledged the issue and said, "Through our enhanced quality assurance protocols, we identified a potential issue with specific battery cells used in limited batches of our BI-B41 power bank," while the National Fire Protection Association notes lithium-ion batteries pose fire risks widely.
