Wendy Chartrand’s Trump Portrait With Horse Manure Sells for $1,800 in Sooke
The 28-by-22-inch work, titled “The Don of Dung,” used watercolour, charcoal and horse manure and sold to an anonymous buyer.
- On Saturday, July 25, artist Wendy Chartrand sold a mixed-media portrait of U.S. President Donald Trump titled "The Don of Dung" for $1,800 at the Sooke Fine Arts Show to an anonymous buyer.
- Chartrand created the piece using strained horse manure, charcoal, and lacquer to express what she called "aggravation or frustration" over how Canadians are being treated by U.S. political developments.
- Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Sooke Fine Arts Show features hundreds of original works from regional artists at the SEAPARC Recreation Centre, positioning the venue as Vancouver Island's longest-running juried fine art exhibition.
- Chartrand said she was "surprised and thrilled" the portrait sold so quickly, disappearing from the sales wall almost immediately. The exhibition remains open daily until August 3, with M-ART-ket Night offering reduced $5 admission after 5 p.m.
- Visitors have until August 3 to explore the exhibition at SEAPARC Recreation Centre in Sooke, which showcases hundreds of original pieces from coastal island artists before the show concludes.
