Porsche Is Pulling the Plug on Its First-Ever Production EV: So Long, Taycan!
The works council approved a gradual wind-down as global Taycan deliveries fell to about 16,000 in 2025, according to the report.
- The German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche reported that Porsche plans to end production of the Taycan by 2030 at the latest, with the company phasing out the electric model progressively rather than abruptly.
- Global Taycan sales collapsed from 40,960 units in 2023 to 16,339 in 2025, with Porsche selling only 6,219 vehicles in the first half of 2026 as buyers shifted toward electric SUVs.
- Declining sales in major markets like the U.S. drove a 90 percent reduction in Porsche profits this year, compounded by higher import tariffs and the current administration's opposition to electric vehicles.
- Despite the report, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters said in July the firm was "by no means planning to halt the Taycan production," adding, "We have invested a lot in the model."
- Porsche is not exiting the electric market, as the company explores a potential successor for the Taycan while developing electric versions of the Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera, with 718 models expected in 2027.
