Beloved BBC Sitcom to Make Comeback in 2027 with New Adaptation
Samuel Freeman is adapting the sitcom for a three-person cast, with tickets on sale October 16.
The classic BBC sitcom Porridge will return to the stage for a new UK tour in September 2027, adapted and directed by Samuel Freeman.
Created by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the 1970s comedy follows Norman Stanley Fletcher during a five-year sentence at HM Prison Slade alongside cellmate Leonard Lennie Godber and prison officer Mr MacKay.
Tickets go on sale October 16, with performances starting at Bath's Rondo Theatre; the three-person cast has yet to be announced.
Freeman said he is "utterly thrilled" to bring the show back, aiming to celebrate the "well known adventures of Fletcher, Godber and co" through theatrical magic.
Following a 2009 stage adaptation featuring former EastEnders actor Shaun Williamson, the 2027 tour concludes in November with a final staging at BEAM in Hertford.
