Dog Food Recalled Due to Salmonella Contamination; 3 Illnesses Reported
FDA testing found Salmonella in 639 bags, and Oma's Pride is investigating after three dog illnesses were reported.
On Monday, Connecticut-based Oma's Pride announced a recall of 639 bags of its Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe after Food and Drug Administration testing found Salmonella contamination, totaling 3,834 pounds of frozen raw dog food.
The Food and Drug Administration initiated the recall after receiving a consumer complaint and subsequently confirmed Salmonella presence through laboratory analysis of the product sample.
Distributed across 11 states and through online orders, the affected six-pound pouches contain 12 individually wrapped, eight-ounce vacuum-sealed portions; three dogs have become sick while no human illnesses are reported.
Owners should immediately stop feeding the product and contact Oma's Pride for a refund at 1-800-678-OMAS. "The health and safety of pets and the people who care for them is our highest priority," the company said.
Salmonella risks extend to humans handling the product, requiring thorough sanitation of bowls and surfaces after contact. If pets show lethargy or vomiting, owners should consult a veterinarian, as infected animals can transmit bacteria to people.
