Cops Seize 53 Dogs From Illegal Breeder’s House
Investigators said buyers reported sick puppies and the rescued dogs are being cared for in isolation as the probe into illegal breeding continues.
On Friday, May 8, Nottinghamshire Police executed a search warrant at a Worksop property, removing 53 dogs due to welfare concerns and arresting a 33-year-old man.
The investigation, supported by Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire Police, followed intelligence reports from buyers whose puppies became seriously ill shortly after arriving home.
Investigators found spaniels kept in stacked, tiny cages; one rescued puppy tested positive for parvovirus. Serena James of the Animal Welfare Investigations Project noted buyers faced "significant veterinary expenses and considerable emotional distress."
Detective Constable Kerry Eames confirmed authorities are reviewing seized mobile phones and evidence regarding alleged illegal breeding conduct, while the Animal Welfare Investigations Project cares for rescued animals in isolation.
Jacob Lloyd, chief executive of the Animal Welfare Investigations Project, said the charity would "always encourage anyone considering bringing a dog into their home to consider adoption through a reputable rescue organisation," and urged potential buyers to take precautions when selecting breeders.
