Police officer sacked after running coffee shop on the side
PC Stanley Kennett ran an unauthorized coffee business while on full pay, involving staff and incorporation, leading to his dismissal for gross misconduct.
- Following a misconduct hearing, PC Stanley Kennett was dismissed for gross misconduct after a tribunal found he operated The Coffee Cycle while on full pay from the Metropolitan Police.
- The Coffee Cycle operates from a bike shop in Storrington, West Sussex and offers coffee, cake, pastries and event catering, while Cdr Andy Brittain described it as an expanding, incorporated business supported by a director's loan and staff.
- Kennett applied in April 2024 to run The Coffee Cycle but, after permission was declined, continued to engage in and operate the unauthorised business and actively promoted it on social media, the panel found.
- The Met has taken action across cases in quick succession, dismissing officers for unauthorized businesses while being paid, and a tribunal heard former Det Con Sean Brierley would have been sacked for intoxication on duty.
- Video evidence showed the officer ordering three glasses of white wine over two hours at Gravity Well Taproom, while CCTV and custody sergeant testimony described him as unsteady, slurring speech, and disoriented at home during a welfare check.
