Police intervened Sunday during a protest and memorial for a wolf shot earlier this month on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, after tensions erupted between demonstrators and local residents, RTV Utrecht reported. Meanwhile, wildlife experts are raising concerns about a new “problem wolf” in Drenthe, saying authorities appear unprepared to act quickly.
A commemoration of the wolf Bram, who was shot dead, resulted in riots in Utrecht's Renswoude on Sunday afternoon. Supporters and opponents of the wolf clashed, prompting police intervention. Protesters from the Faunabescherming (Wildlife Protection) were eventually escorted away by officers. No arrests were made, De Gelderlander reports.
During a protest against the shooting of wolf Bram at the Fauna Management Unit building in Renswoude, police had to intervene to protect the demonstrators. A group of nearly one hundred local residents opposed the demonstration. No arrests were made, the police reported. The protesters from the group and Animal Rebellion are extremely frightened, according to a spokesperson for the activist group.
