Police identify three women whose bodies were recovered in sea off Brighton coast
Sussex Police say formal identification is underway and no evidence suggests third-party involvement as investigators seek to learn how the women entered the sea.
On Wednesday morning, Sussex Police recovered three bodies from the sea near Madeira Drive in Brighton; officers believe they have identified the women, aged between 20 and 30, and notified their next of kin.
Chief Superintendent Adam Hays stated there is no evidence of criminality at present, though the investigation remains sensitive as police pursue multiple hypotheses about how the women entered the water.
Emergency services, including the Coastguard, responded to reports of concern near Black Rock at 5:45 AM on Wednesday; a large cordon was established as the recovery operation proceeded.
Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey called the discovery "the most devastating news" the city has received in years, while Peter Kyle, MP for Hove and Portslade, termed it a "sobering and heartbreaking reminder."
Police stated that names will not be disclosed until formal identification procedures conclude; investigators are asking anyone with information to contact authorities via 101 quoting Operation Ledmore.
