Police find illegal drugs stash after drone squad tracks e-bike with young child on board

Greater Manchester Police seized 94 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin after tracking an e-bike with a 10-year-old passenger to a Harpurhey address, arresting a 21-year-old man.

  • On November 27, Greater Manchester Police's drone unit followed an e-bike weaving through Harpurhey traffic at around 5pm, driven by a man in a balaclava with a ten-year-old boy as passenger.
  • As part of Operation North Star, GMP's North Manchester Neighbourhood Team intensified patrols targeting off-road vehicles in North Manchester to tackle dangerous e-bike use and reassure residents.
  • A search turned up drugs, smart whip canisters and items suggesting supply activity, including 94 wraps of crack and heroin, a machete, a small quantity of cannabis, cash and mobile phones.
  • Officers arrested a 21-year-old on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug offences, and he remains in custody for questioning in a strong result for the North Manchester neighbourhood team.
  • A GMP spokesperson said the vehicle was ridden in a dangerous manner, including mounting the pavement, prompting specialist drone unit teams to work with GMP's North Manchester Neighbourhood Team.
