Police commence investigations into killing of Inspector by suspected armed robbers in Edo
Edo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation and manhunt after a police Inspector was killed during a lawful stop-and-search operation, officials said.
- A serving police Inspector attached to the Ekiadolor Area Command was shot dead on Friday during a routine stop-and-search on the Ugbowo–Lagos road near Ekosodin junction in Benin City, Edo State at about 112:00 hours.
- Operatives attempted to stop an unregistered, black, heavily tinted Lexus SUV that refused to halt when flagged down, but attempts to inspect it were met with sudden gunfire from one occupant.
- The command's Public Relations Officer said CSP Moses Yamu confirmed the incident, identified the deceased as an Inspector, and appealed to residents for information on any matching vehicle sightings.
- Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika ordered an immediate investigation and manhunt, deploying all intelligence and tactical units, while urging the public to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or emergency lines 08037646272 and 08077773721.
