Police at scene of ongoing 'incident' with Essex reservoir closed
A multidisciplinary Air Accident Investigation Branch team is probing the cause of the crash that closed Hanningfield Reservoir, with police urging witnesses to come forward.
- On Sunday , a light aircraft entered the water at Hanningfield Reservoir at about 2pm, and Hanningfield Reservoir Nature Discovery Park remains closed today.
- Essex Police launched an investigation and, they say, are in the early stages, working closely with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch , part of the Department for Transport.
- Flightradar24 data shows the Beagle B121 Pup, registration G-AZDG, departed North Weald at 11.54am and ended over the reservoir at 2.03pm; fire crews, air ambulances and HM Coastguard responded.
- The closure has disrupted visitors and the Visitor Centre at Hanningfield Reservoir, with emergency services blocking access and tributes including flowers left by the local community.
- The AAIB has said it will investigate the circumstances and produce a report, while Essex Wildlife Trust supports Essex Police, hopes to reopen tomorrow, and will update visitors online.
