Poland arrest four in probe into military supplies sent to Russia

Authorities say the group used hidden compartments and moved more than 2 million zloty in military parts to Russia despite an embargo.

  • On Thursday, the Polish Internal Security Agency arrested four people in Warsaw on charges of spying for Russian intelligence and supplying military components to Russia.
  • Among the six total suspects are five Poles and a 37-year-old Russian woman; the group illegally supplied Russia with military components used for ammunition and weapon systems production.
  • Tomasz Siemoniak, the head of Poland's special services, stated "Russia is subject to a strict embargo in this area, and this operation was designed to circumvent it." Authorities suspect about 100 people of involvement since January 1, 2024.
  • Two suspects accused of participating in an organised criminal group were placed under "non-custodial preventive measures," while the arrests add to a series of ongoing espionage cases in Poland.
  • The Russian Embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while the Kremlin has consistently denied conducting sabotage operations in NATO countries or plotting any confrontation.
