PM Modi speaks to Canada's Carney on building positive momentum in trade ties
- On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, describing their interaction as a "warm and productive conversation" and agreeing to strengthen the India-Canada Strategic Partnership across trade, energy, and security.
- This conversation followed a meeting between Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, who discussed advancing the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations.
- Sidhu is leading Canada's largest trade delegation to India in more than 30 years, with nearly 300 business delegates expected to explore partnerships in aerospace, clean energy, technology, life sciences, agri-food, and forestry.
- Goyal noted the CEPA aims to provide "fresh momentum to bilateral trade," while Sidhu added negotiations seek to open "more opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses" through greater market access.
