PM Modi meets Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed on sidelines of BRICS Summit in Delhi
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.
India is currently hosting the 18th BRICS Summit under its 2026 Chairship, guided by the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability."
Recent defense talks explored expanding bilateral collaboration between India and Ethiopia, while companies in India and China expressed interest in investing in Ethiopian infrastructure.
Ethiopia, one of the 11 member countries of BRICS, joined the group in January 2024 to gain market access and export opportunities in the Global South.
BRICS members collectively account for around 49.5 per cent of the global population and 40 per cent of global GDP, as the 2026 Chairship aims to build consensus among diverse members.
