Aurora Innovation Stock's Momentum Score Surges As McLane Begins Driverless Freight Runs In Texas In Majo
The companies said the routes have logged 280,000 autonomous miles since 2023 as Aurora expands commercial freight service across the Sun Belt.
On Wednesday, McLane Company and Aurora Innovation announced a commercial agreement to operate driverless trucks between Dallas and Houston seven days a week, scaling their 2023 pilot program.
The companies previously completed a 2023 pilot that logged 280,000 autonomous miles and 1,400 deliveries, establishing the system's reliability for 'middle mile' logistics between distribution centers.
Although the system is Level 4 rated, trucks use Aurora Driver technology with a human observer in the cab per an agreement with OEM Paccar, though the observer does not operate the vehicle.
McLane President Susan Adzick stated autonomous technology improves supply chain efficiency, allowing company drivers to remain focused on the 'critical last mile' and maintain service levels for restaurant clients.
By the end of the year, Aurora plans to expand these autonomous freight routes across the U.S. Sun Belt, potentially serving additional McLane business beyond current Texas operations.
