In mathematics, France is ranked 34th. In understanding, it is ranked 28th. Its lowest results recorded in more than 20 years. But the OECD ranking also shows a global regression in the ability of students to read and understand.
Every three years, the International Programme for the Monitoring of Pupils' Achievements (Pisa) reports on the level of pupils in more than 90 countries. The report, published on 8 September 2026, shows that France is again recording a decline in its overall level.
The OECD Pisa 2026 survey reveals a historical drop in the level of French students of 15 years of age in science, understanding of writing and mathematics.
France ranks 34th in mathematics and 28th in comprehension of writing, with its lowest scores in more than 20 years.
