Pilgrims in Lourdes marking the feast of the Assumption paid tribute to the monks of Tibhirine on Sunday, thirty years after their murder.
The seven French monks were kidnapped and killed in 1996 during the Algerian Civil War.
Scheduled for December 2025 and postponed a second time in January, the long-awaited visit of the French interior minister was officially announced on 16 February. Laurent Nunez himself had announced his intention in the wake of the release of the French Algerian writer Boualem Sensal in November 2024.
