No. 9 UCLA Rides Running Back Trio to 28-10 Victory over Michigan State
UCLA piled up 245 rushing yards and held Michigan State to 10 points in Bob Chesney’s first undefeated Big Ten start.
On Saturday, UCLA defeated Michigan State 28-10 at the Rose Bowl, improving to 7-0 for the first time since 2005. Coach Bob Chesney became the first UCLA coach to start his tenure with seven consecutive wins.
The Bruins relied on their rushing attack to secure the victory, gaining 245 yards—the fifth time this season they eclipsed 200. UCLA leads the Big Ten with 233 rushing yards per game under Chesney's first-year system.
Running backs Wayne Knight, Anthony Woods, and Jaivian Thomas each scored touchdowns despite multiple first-half fumbles. Woods ran 14 times for 112 yards and a touchdown, exemplifying the depth of the Bruins' rushing trio.
UCLA's defense forced 3 turnovers, including two interceptions by safety Malik Hartford, holding the Spartans to 10 points. Hartford's performance anchored a defensive unit that carried the load until the offense found its footing.
Before kickoff, UCLA secured a commitment from 4-star quarterback Josiah Boyd, adding momentum to the victory. The Bruins remain the only undefeated team in the Big Ten with a pristine 5-0 conference record.
