Philosopher and Author Neera K Badhwar Inspires Children to Embrace Their Uniqueness in Kali the Elephant Learns from Socrates the Philosopher
Badhwar’s story follows an elephant who learns to answer teasing with humor and self-acceptance, offering children a lesson in resilience and confidence.
Children's author and philosopher Neera K. Badhwar introduced her new book, 'Kali the Elephant Learns from Socrates the Philosopher,' which blends timeless wisdom with an entertaining story about overcoming insecurity and building self-confidence.
Badhwar drew inspiration from her granddaughter's middle school teasing experience, wanting to show children how to stand up for themselves without anger or vengeance. The story follows Kali, who feels insecure after classmates mock her large ears and trunk.
After learning that the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates was also mocked for his appearance, Kali discovers how to use humor and confidence to respond to teasing, transforming an uncomfortable situation into laughter and mutual respect.
Drawing on her academic career, Badhwar earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto and taught philosophy at the University of Oklahoma for twenty-two years, backgrounds she leverages to help children build resilience through engaging storytelling.
Badhwar has several additional children's books awaiting publication, while readers, parents, and educators seeking more information on her work can visit the Global Book Network website for details.
