Phillies Top Prospect Aidan Miller to Have Back Procedure, Could Miss 6-8 Weeks
The 21-year-old will have a minimally invasive radiofrequency ablation after recurring lumbar pain kept him out of baseball activities.
On Friday, Philadelphia Phillies top prospect Aidan Miller will undergo a minimally invasive procedure to address discogenic pain and facet inflammation in his lumbar spine.
Persistent back issues have hindered Miller since spring training, keeping the 21-year-old off the field all season and forcing repeated rehab setbacks.
Radiofrequency ablation uses radio waves to prevent pain signals, according to the National Library of Medicine, and is safer than surgery without requiring general anesthesia.
Following the procedure, Miller will rest for one week before resuming rehabilitation with a target return to game activity in six to eight weeks.
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski expressed uncertainty about a 2026 return, stating he is "only as confident as the doctors tell me" regarding Miller's season availability.
