Union Acquire Defender Finn Sundstrom From USL

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Union acquired MLS rights to Finn Sundstrom from D.C. United in exchange for their first-round pick in the 2028 draft, with Sundstrom arriving from North Carolina FC.
The move comes as the Union rebuilds its center-back corps after Jakob Glesnes was traded to LA Galaxy earlier this month; Sundstrom signed as a homegrown in 2024 and debuted on Sept. 8, 2024.
Sundstrom played 33 games last year, totaling 2,671 minutes, with a goal and an assist; he is a teenager who stands 6-foot and weighs 170 pounds.
Union coach Bradley Carnell said Sundstrom `aligns well with our playing philosophy`, and the signing creates competition among Olwethu Makhanya, Neil Pierre and Nathan Harriel.
The contract runs through 2028 with two club option years, and financial terms were not disclosed in the club's announcement.
