James Bailey will lead Pets At Home’s turnaround after profits fell over a third and retail earnings dropped 84%, with £20 million in overhead cuts planned.
- Retailer Pets At Home ended its three-month search by appointing former Waitrose managing director James Bailey as chief executive, who will take up the post on March 30.
- Lyssa McGowan quit in September amid profit warnings and sliding sales, ending a three-year tenure, and November half-year results showed profits tumbled by more than a third with retail earnings down 84%.
- Bailey brings more than five years leading Waitrose and a 639,770 salary plus potential bonuses of up to 170% and a 250% share award next year.
- Ian Burke, chairman and interim CEO, will revert to non-executive chairman when Bailey joins next spring, and Burke warned last month that `urgent and necessary` cost-cutting is needed to revive the retail division.
- The board said Bailey's experience aligns with the group's ambitions for the coming years, and he may be in line for a 250% share award if shareholders approve the pay policy at next year's AGM.
