Hungary will tax the great fortunes as of 1 January 2027, under conditions stricter than those initially promised by the government, said on Saturday Prime Minister Peter Magyar in Szornok (central-eastern Hungary), transmits MTI.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced at the Szolnok stop of his national tour that, in accordance with the Tisza program, a wealth tax will be introduced from January 1, 2027. The government is imposing stricter conditions than originally agreed upon: above a certain amount, for example, assets of 500 billion forints, the tax rate may exceed 1 percent.
Péter Magyar previously expected annual budget revenue of 300–600 billion forints from the wealth tax. However, according to Világgazdaság, the Ministry of Finance is currently expecting only 150–200 billion forints by 2027.
