Peru’s Congress unanimously voted to remove President Boluarte amid rising crime and corruption allegations, with her approval rating dropping to about 2 percent, lawmakers said.
- In an overnight session early Friday, Peru's Congress voted 124-0 to remove Dina Boluarte for `permanent moral incapacity`, and José Jerí was sworn in as interim president.
- Lawmakers said the removal followed months of corruption probes and failures on crime, including alleged kickbacks linked to mining permits and Boluarte's `Rolexgate` watches valued at over 100,000 dollars.
- After deadly shootings and growing extortion reports, public anger boiled over as official figures show 6,041 killed and extortion complaints rose 28% this year, with concert victims fueling outrage.
- Interim president José Jerí pledged to tackle violence and restore security, vowing an all-out push against crime with six months to go before elections.
- With elections due next April and Boluarte's term ending July 28, 2026, economists and López Aliaga warned turnover risks a 5 billion dollar annual economic loss.

Peru Wakes up to 7th President in Less Than a Decade after President Boluarte Ousted by Congress
LIMA, Peru (AP) — Peruvians woke up to their seventh president in less than a decade Friday, as 38-year-old José Jerí took the reins of the shaken nation after Congress ousted widely loathed President Dina Boluarte in a lightning overnight impeachment.
Former Peruvian president Dina Boluarte, dismissed by Congress in an express political trial, ruled out Friday that she plan to apply for asylum, despite the investigations opened by the prosecution for alleged money laundering and another crime.
