BIHAR, JUL 12 – Congress leaders accuse Bihar government of forcing citizens to prove citizenship during voter list revision while about 5 crore voters are marked as ‘suspect’, raising democracy concerns.
- On Saturday in Patna, Congress social media chairperson Supriya Shrinate criticized the Bihar government for demanding citizens prove their citizenship while criminals roam freely during SIR.
- The Election Commission of India launched the Special Intensive Revision to remove foreign illegal migrants before November 2025 Bihar elections through house-to-house enumeration by Booth Level Officers.
- Booth Level Officers have identified many individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar with Indian documents, collecting over 6.32 crore forms, covering 80.11% of Bihar's electors.
- Nearly 5 crore 'suspect' voters must prove citizenship or face deletion, risking widespread disenfranchisement, as the Election Commission's voter list revision progresses.

The special intensive revision campaign of the voter list has gained momentum in Bihar. So far, 80.11% voters' forms have been submitted and this work can be completed in the next three days. Under the supervision of the Election Commission, teams of BLOs, BLAs and volunteers are reaching out to voters door-to-door. The Commission hopes that most of the forms will be collected before the deadline of July 25.
