The tragedy took place a few years after a previous explosion which Stuart Cooper had survived. His grieving niece Emily, who always referred to Stuart as dad, said she only later learned it may have been a suicide attempt. Paying tribute, she said: "I can’t really fault anything dad did. He was amazing even when he was at his worst"
