Penticton’s newest event takes ‘a step back in time’
The event featured sword-fighting, live music and more than 50 vendors, while an off-site taproom gathering marked the release of Estus Beer.
On Saturday, May 30, hundreds of costumed attendees gathered at Gyro Park in Penticton for the inaugural South Okanagan Renaissance Fair, featuring sword-fighting demonstrations and live music.
Lead organizer Janell Rashke pitched the concept four months ago to bring the community together for creative, fantasy-inspired fun. The event came together quickly from that initial idea.
More than 50 vendors operated at the site, supported by around 30 volunteers. Visitors traveled from Salmon Arm, Kamloops, Mission, and Vancouver Island to attend the festival.
Penticton's own PentictoKnight greeted fans at the park while the fair collaborated with Cannery Brewing to release Estus Beer at an off-site taproom gathering.
Rashke envisions the festival growing into a multi-day fair down the road. The successful inaugural turnout positions the event for potential expansion in future years.
