Winter Fuel Payment Warning as Bradford Pensioners Face Deadline Next Week
Pensioners with incomes above £35,000 may still get the payment unless they opt out, and HMRC can reclaim it through the tax system.
Pensioners across Cumbria have until September 20, 2026, to opt out of receiving the Winter Fuel Payment, a Government deadline for those who wish to decline the benefit.
Individuals with an annual income exceeding £35,000 should consider opting out, as HMRC will otherwise reclaim the Winter Fuel Payment through the tax system.
The Winter Fuel Payment Centre can be reached at 0800 731 0160, and pensioners can also use the Manage your State Pension service or Government online form to opt out.
Once you opt out, you will not receive the Winter Fuel Payment in future years unless you opt back in, though opting out does not affect your State Pension.
To receive the Winter Fuel Payment for the 2026 to 2027 season, pensioners must contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre before March 31, 2027; you do not need to opt out annually.
