Pegasus Airlines outbid Poland's LOT with a €10 million higher offer to acquire Smartwings, enhancing its fleet and regional presence in Central Europe.
- Pegasus Airlines, a Turkish low-cost carrier established in 1990, signed a 154 million euro deal to acquire the biggest Czech airline, Smartwings, and its owner Czech Airlines from Prague City Air.
- The process of transferring the ownership of Czech Airlines should be completed in 12 months, according to Smartwings spokeswoman Vladimíra Dufková.
- Smartwings currently operates regular, charter and private flights to around 80 destinations with almost 50 planes, and previously negotiated a takeover by Polish national carrier LOT before Pegasus filed a rival bid.
