Former Marine, PBS Employee Killed by Estranged Husband, Authorities Say
Authorities say Joshua Orlando shot his estranged wife, and a gun was recovered at the scene after her death in hospital.
- On Friday, 25-year-old PBS Kansas engineer Ivy Unruh was shot at her Wichita apartment complex around 8 a.m. Unruh died Monday from her injuries, and authorities charged her estranged husband, 29-year-old Joshua Orlando, with first-degree murder.
- Unruh had separated from Orlando by filing for divorce and moving out to escape the relationship. PBS Kansas President Victor Hogstrom stated the station implemented safety protocols to protect the Marine veteran after learning of her situation.
- As an organ donor, Unruh saved six lives following her death, according to family members. A GoFundMe established to cover funeral expenses in Kansas and Arizona has raised over $10,000 to support the family.
- Orlando remains held on a $300,000 bond at the Sedgwick County Jail following the upgrade of his initial battery charge to first-degree murder. He currently has no attorney listed in court records.
- The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential support 24/7 in more than 170 languages for those experiencing abuse. Victims can access resources by calling 1-800-799-7233 or visiting thehotline.org.
