The first gathering of Sudeten Germans in Czechia since World War II is set to go ahead this weekend despite a political backlash that has exposed tensions over one of Central Europe's most painful historical legacies.
The annual meeting of contemporary witnesses and descendants will take place this year in Brno. For some, the symbolic reconciliation, but for the right-wing populist government in Prague, is pure provocation.
President Petr Pavel, just like last year, has granted patronage to the Meeting Brno festival, the presidential office confirmed on Monday.
