Paul McCartney Reportedly Turns Down Netflix Celebrity Roast Offer
Netflix asked Paul McCartney to join its live roast franchise, but the former Beatles star declined as the company sought bigger-name targets.
Before Kevin Hart took the hot seat at this year's live roast on Netflix, the spot was offered to Paul McCartney, sources tell Variety, though the musician declined the offer.
Comedian Jeff Ross, the "Roastmaster General" and executive producer of the franchise, confirmed to Variety that Netflix approached the legendary songwriter, describing the proposal as a "fantasy roast."
Producers sought to follow up 2024's blockbuster Tom Brady roast with another "GOAT," and Ross noted that while the musician "doesn't need anything," a roast centered on him would be entertaining.
Hosted by Shane Gillis, "The Roast of Kevin Hart" took place Sunday night at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, featuring Chelsea Handler, Pete Davidson, Regina Hall, Dwayne Johnson, and Katt Williams.
Netflix stand-up comedy chief Robbie Praw told Variety the company has "thrown around a lot of names" for future specials, and Ross suggested potential targets could include Drake and Stevie Wonder.
