Patriots QB Drake Maye Stands Behind Coach Mike Vrabel: "He's a Great Human Being"
Maye called Vrabel a great human being and said the Patriots can move past the coach’s off-field issues before the season.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye publicly backed head coach Mike Vrabel on Wednesday at the Truist Championship Pro-Am in Charlotte, dismissing concerns that Vrabel's off-field controversy would distract the defending AFC champions.
Vrabel faced scrutiny after the New York Post published photos of him with NFL reporter Dianna Russini at an Arizona resort; on April 24, Vrabel stated he was "taking accountability" for his actions while seeking counseling.
Maye called Vrabel a "great human being" and noted the coach has done a "great job" communicating with the team, expressing confidence that "I think that'll take care of itself."
Separately, Maye addressed the recent acquittal of former teammate Stefon Diggs regarding assault charges; the jury cleared the four-time Pro Bowl receiver of all charges, though he could still face NFL discipline.
The Patriots will host a three-day rookie minicamp beginning Friday in Foxborough, Massachusetts, as the team shifts focus to the upcoming season following recent off-field developments.
