Patients unable to access GPs online after collapse of tech firm
The outage has cut off websites, online consultations and chatbots for fewer than 10% of England’s 6,000 GP practices, the NHS said.
Thousands of patients across the UK lost access to online GP surgery portals after tech provider Silicon Practice collapsed into administration late Friday, disrupting websites and digital consultation services.
While fewer than 10% of the around 6,000 practices in England are affected, disruption has reached Gloucestershire, London, and parts of Wales, including Rowcroft Medical Centre in Stroud.
Silicon managed the FootFall digital tool, which was advertised to reduce patient phone calls by 30% and "free your reception team from routine admin and manage demand more efficiently."
NHS England advises patients unable to access online services to contact their GP practice by phone or in person; urgent medical help remains available through NHS 111 and repeat medications via the NHS app.
Practice teams are bracing for higher telephone call volumes as health boards warned that information regarding when websites will cease to operate remains limited, prompting the search for alternative online consultation providers.
