Palmer Must Focus on Chelsea After England Snub, Says Alonso
On Friday, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso backed Cole Palmer after England manager Thomas Tuchel omitted the 24-year-old from the upcoming Nations League squad.
Tuchel defended his selection, repeating that Palmer "misses too many opportunities" to impress alongside attacking options including Jude Bellingham, Eberechi Eze, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Morgan Rogers.
Despite the omission, the 24-year-old has recorded five goals and three assists in 11 appearances this season, though he remains under scrutiny after withdrawing from England's squad last October.
Alonso confirmed he has not discussed the omission with Palmer, stating, "We haven't talked about that. We are focused on our things, on Chelsea things," ahead of Sunday's match against Sunderland.
Chelsea may see goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez return from surgery against Sunderland, while Moises Caicedo faces a fitness test for discomfort ahead of the Premier League fixture.
