Pakistan, Sudan sign visa-free travel agreement for official, diplomatic passport holders
The deal excludes ordinary passport holders and is meant to expand official contacts and institutional cooperation between the two countries.
- On Saturday, November 7, 2026, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali signed a visa-free travel agreement in Islamabad allowing holders of official and diplomatic passports to travel between the two countries without visas.
- This diplomatic move follows reports that Pakistan's proposed $1.5 billion weapons deal with Sudan stalled after Saudi Arabia reportedly withdrew funding amid a complex conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, leaving the transaction's status unclear.
- Naqvi offered professional training for Sudanese police officers and directed officials to resolve visa difficulties for Sudanese women married to Pakistani citizens. Both countries agreed to pursue a memorandum of understanding on combating cybercrime.
- The Interior Ministry described the deal as "an important milestone in bilateral relations between Pakistan and Sudan." Mustafa Ali stated it would "further strengthen friendly relations and institutional cooperation between Pakistan and Sudan."
- Pakistan has signed similar agreements with several countries in recent years to facilitate diplomatic travel. Earlier this year, Pakistan finalized arrangements with Italy, following deals with the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and Somalia to waive visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.
