Pakistan gets first shipment of Russian crude under discount deal
- Pakistan has made its first government-to-government import of discounted Russian crude using Chinese currency, marking a significant departure from its previous U.S. Dollar-dominated export payments policy.
- The deal was struck earlier this year and the first cargo arrived in Karachi on 11 June. Pakistan imported 154,000 barrels of oil per day in 2022, and this shipment of 100,000 tonnes of Russian crude will take the country’s imports away from Middle Eastern oil.
