Family pays tribute to 'beloved daughter' who died in house fire near Middlesbrough

Jaden Wright is accused of two murders and four serious assault counts after a fire that killed a 7-year-old girl and her aunt.

  • On Tuesday, Jaden Wright appeared before Teesside Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Valentina Foster, 7, and Natalie McDonald, 34, who died in a Grangetown house fire.
  • The fatal blaze occurred on Wednesday, August 26, at an end-of-terrace property on Birchington Avenue, prompting police to launch a murder investigation into the circumstances of the deaths.
  • Wright faces additional charges including intentional strangling, two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, and two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm. A 48-year-old woman remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition; a 27-year-old man is receiving treatment, while two teenage girls were discharged.
  • Cleveland Police released a 31-year-old man without charge on Sunday following his arrest in connection with the case. Community members have left numerous floral tributes, teddies, and notes at the Birchington Avenue scene.
  • Remanded in custody, Wright is scheduled to appear before Teesside Crown Court on Thursday. CPS North East prosecutors confirmed sufficient evidence exists to proceed with the case against him.
