Victoria Transit Workers Will Resume Overtime Ban on Oct. 5
BC Transit says the overtime ban will bring cancellations and delays, while HandyDART service remains unaffected.
On Friday, BC Transit confirmed that mediation with Unifor Local 333-BC ended without a tentative agreement, and transit workers will resume an overtime ban on Monday, October 5.
The union previously paused the overtime ban, which began September 1, to facilitate mediation; while meetings on September 28 and 29 resolved some issues, officials stated that "significant hurdles remain."
During the initial overtime ban, 60 pieces of cancelled work resulted in trip delays across the Victoria Regional Transit System, though HandyDART service remained unaffected by the job action.
"Mediation moved things forward, but we are not there yet," said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle. Unifor Local 333-BC President Stephan Bains emphasized members want to keep Greater Victoria moving.
Funding public transit remains central to the dispute, with Unifor National President Lana Payne calling for increased government investment. BC Transit encourages riders to check their website for ongoing service updates.
