Police in Salmon Arm, B.C., Warn of Potent Drugs After Two Overdoses in 24 Hours
Police said the counterfeit tablets may contain isotonitazene, a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than fentanyl, after two suspected overdoses.
On Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, Salmon Arm RCMP issued a warning about counterfeit Dilaudid tablets circulating in the community after responding to two suspected overdoses in 24 hours.
Counterfeit tablets sold as Dilaudid or 'dillies' contain isotonitazene, a synthetic opioid considered up to 50 times stronger than fentanyl, according to police. Media relations officer Andrew Hodges noted the high overdose risk.
Police are also monitoring for cychlorphine, a rare laboratory-made opioid approximately 10 times more potent than fentanyl. Hodges warned no test strips currently exist to detect its presence.
Officials advise anyone using illicit substances to carry naloxone and avoid using drugs alone. If witnessing an overdose, individuals must call 9-1-1 immediately for emergency assistance.
Interior Health issued drug alerts last week, including one for Kamloops about 110 kilometres west of Salmon Arm, warning of fake Dilaudid tablets circulating across the British Columbia Interior.
