Jeep Recalls over 120,000 Grand Cherokees for Seat Safety Issue
UNITED STATES, JUL 23 – The recall affects 121,398 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs due to a locking mechanism defect that may cause headrests to remain loose, increasing crash injury risk, Chrysler said.
- On July 17, Chrysler reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affecting 78,157 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 43,241 Grand Cherokee L vehicles from model years 2023 and 2024.
- Chrysler says the defect stems from interference with an internal locking mechanism, after launching an investigation in August 2024 that spanned nine months.
- Loose second-row headrests may increase injury risk, Chrysler said, and blocked locking mechanisms can leave headrests loose.
- Under recall number 20C, dealers will be notified by July 24 and owners by Sept. 5, and authorized dealers will inspect and replace second-row head restraints at no cost.
- The NHTSA campaign number is 25V472000, and owners can contact Stellantis customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
